In 2004, SOWN entered its 20th year! To celebrate this milestone, an anniversary quilt, each square designed by members of SOWN groups, was created.
When June Siegel, staff member and quilter, learned that SOWN’s original name was SOWN TOGETHER, she immediately thought “quilt!” The image of a quilt, composed of squares, each representing a SOWN group, was born.
Materials in red, black and white, the colors of SOWN’s logo, were sent to the individual groups. From there, the group’s imagination, creativity, and individuality resulted in a collection of truly unique squares. Sarah Bond, friend of board member Della Lazarus, and expert quilter, brought the pieces together.
You can view the completed masterpiece, a patchwork of squares representing over 40 different SOWN groups, here. The anniversary quilt symbolizes what SOWN is about: older women creating, sharing, and supporting each other.
