Liz Werthan Receives the Inaugural Lois R. Fogg Memorial Award
On May 31, 2006 SOWN honored Liz Werthan with the Inaugural Lois R. Fogg Memorial Award. The event was held at the PNC Bank Center in Philadelphia.
Honoree Liz Werthan has dedicated herself to improving the lives of women and their families through community service, leadership, and political advocacy for over thirty years. Liz served as the Executive Director of CHOICE, has worked as staff to Congressman Chaka Fattah, and has been active on several political campaigns locally and statewide. She continues to fight for the rights of women by working to increase state funding to enable uninsured women to receive cervical cancer screening and treatment.
Lois Fogg was a longstanding board member and past president of SOWN, as well as an active volunteer with numerous other nonprofit organizations. Lois was the first woman partner in the law firm of Mesirov, Gelman, Jaffe, Cramer and Jamison. As an advocate for women, she was instrumental in promoting opportunities for women attorneys. In 2000, Lois joined PNC advisors where she served as senior counsel until her death in 2005.
The Lois R. Fogg Award was created in Lois’ memory to honor a woman whose work is key to the overall success of an organization or initiative that enhances the lives of older women in the Delaware Valley. The award is given to a woman whose efforts reflect Lois’ longstanding commitment and her passion for women’s rights and other issues of social justice.
